About Dr Pranabesh Barua

Pranabesh Barua received his PhD degree from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)-Kharagpur in 2002. From 2002 to 2005, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the NIMS-Tsukuba, Japan, mainly on fabrication of metallic nanoparticle composite structures using PECVD method and ion implantation. In June 2005, he moved to Toyota Technological Institute-Nagoya, Japan as a research fellow, where he investigated Yb-doped silica glass perform fabrication by MCVD process using solution doping and vapour phase delivery techniques. From June 2008 to February 2014, he held a fibre process and development engineer position at Fibercore Ltd, Southampton, UK. In Fibercore limited, he was involved in specialty optical fibre manufacturing, process improvement, and new fibre development. In March 2014, he joined the silica fabrication group at the Optoelectronics Research Centre (ORC). His research interests are various rare-earth doped fibres, spun fibres and polarization maintaining fibres.
