ORC Seminar Series

Si-compatible active and passive integrated optics

Speaker: Kerstin Wörhoff

Date: Wednesday 6 June
Venue: Lecture Theatre A (Building 44)
Time: 2pm

In the first part of the presentation the research at IOMS, including technology and devices for communications, optical sensing, photonic crystals and active integrated optics, will be surveyed. The second part will focus on integrated optical waveguides based on rare-earth-ion doped Al2O3 and Y2O3. Within this research, which is carried out in the framework of an ongoing EU-project, IOMS focuses on the realization of low-loss Al2O3 planar waveguide technology, reliable channel waveguide fabrication in sesquioxide materials and integration of active / passive functionality on a single chip.

Kerstin Wörhoff is an assistant professor at the Integrated Optical MicroSystems group, which participates in the MESA+ Research Institute of the University of Twente, The Netherlands. She obtained her PhD in applied physics from the University of Twente in 1996. Her research interest includes photonics technology for active and passive integrated optical devices.
